A venue that's close to home
Rathsallagh House is one of Ireland's leading exclusive country house wedding venues. It sits in the Wicklow countryside near Dunlavin, surrounded by mature trees and open grounds, and it's steeped in history.
I've filmed several weddings at Rathsallagh over the years, and it's a place I always look forward to going back to. A Rathsallagh wedding feels like a house party in the best sense: the house is yours, the rooms flow into each other, and the day unfolds at its own pace. That's a gift to a documentary film, because the story connects naturally from morning to midnight without anyone being herded anywhere.
The staff are welcoming and the setting does a lot of the work, especially in soft autumn or evening light over the grounds. I've filmed here in different seasons, and the house rewards them all: gardens and long evenings in summer, candlelight and firesides when it turns cold.
As a Wicklow-based videographer, Rathsallagh is close to home for me. I film discreetly with compact equipment, stay out of the way, and capture the day as it actually happens: no staging, no directing.
